Walnut or Cherry? A Founder’s Guide to Choosing Your Wood
A Question I Get Every Day
When I inspect the raw lumber arriving at our WOODLE workshop, I’m still amazed by the distinct character of each tree.
We only select FAS-grade timber (the highest standard for hardwood). But almost every day, my inbox gets the same question:
"I’m torn between Solid Walnut and Natural Cherry. Which one is better?"
The truth? Structurally, they are both exceptional. The choice comes down to their personalities.
Walnut: The Quiet Luxury
If your bedroom is a modern sanctuary with neutral tones, Walnut will feel right at home.
- The Look: Deep chocolate-brown with swirling, tight grain lines.
- The Vibe: Incredibly calming and grounded.
- The Process: Walnut is a dense hardwood. We sand it up to 800-grit until it feels like absolute silk under your fingertips.
It doesn’t shout for attention. It quietly elevates your space.
Cherry: The Romantic Living Wood
Cherry holds a special place in my heart. It is a true "living" wood, meant for those who appreciate things that tell a story.
- The Magic of Patina: When your box first arrives, it will have a warm, light golden-pink hue.
- The Oxidation Process: As it absorbs the UV light in your room, it physically transforms. Within months, it deepens into a rich, glowing reddish-brown patina.
It literally ages alongside you, becoming more beautiful as the years pass.
Embracing the Imperfect
Because we use 100% solid natural wood, no two boxes are ever identical.
You might see a subtle mineral streak or a slight grain shift. We never bleach or dye our wood to hide these. To us, those aren't flaws—they are nature's signature of authenticity.
Which personality belongs on your vanity?
